(fijands)), with all of them meaning foe. The Old Norse and Gothic terms are present participles of the corresponding verbs fjá/????? (fijan, “to hate”), from Proto-Indo-European *peh?- (“to hate”) (compare Sanskrit ????? (p??yati, “(he) reviles”)).
